La Bienal 2002 begins September the 3rd and ends October the 6th and feature a contemporary poster created by Juan Suárez. Under the direction of Manuel Herrera, the event hosts 80 shows, 17 of them considered as premieres.

The Patio de la Montería at the Real Alcázar joins the list for this edition, amongst other classic venues: Teatro de la Maestranza, Teatro Lope de Vega, Teatro Central, Teatro Alameda and Hotel Triana.

Some of the featured artists are La Paquera, La Macanita, Angelita Vargas, El Chocolate, Agujetas, Pansequito, Pepe de Lucía, Dorantes, Antonio Canales, Andrés Marín, El Mistela, Juana Amaya, the Compañía Andaluza de Danza featuring Antonio Gades’ “Bodas de sangre”, Vicente Amigo, Sara Baras and her “Mariana Pineda”, Manolo Sanlúcar, Cristina Hoyos, Enrique Morente, Javier Barón, Isabel Bayón, Eva Yerbabuena, Israel Galván, Estrella Morente, Lole Montoya and Pedro Sierra.

La Bienal also curates a series of flamenco films, the II Feria Mundial del Flamenco and other expositions, amongst other activities.
